# Is OLarry Right for You? Who We Serve Best, and Who We Don't

## The short answer

OLarry is right for you if you feel your taxes are complex and you want a Tax Advisor who knows your full situation. Complex can mean: multiple entities, a high volume of K-1s, real estate, trusts, or income that crosses state or national lines. OLarry is not the right fit if your income is mostly W-2 wages, or if you need investment management, legal drafting, or an outsourced CFO.

Below is how we decide fit, what our pricing includes, who we are not built for, and the questions prospective clients ask most often before they join.

| **Best for** | Individuals, families, and business owners with complex tax situations |
| --- | --- |
| **Pricing** | Flat, all-inclusive annual fee, quoted once at the start of the engagement |
| **Your team** | One dedicated Tax Advisor, supported by specialists |
| **Coverage** | Clients in all 50 states; U.S. returns only, with U.S.-side reporting for foreign holdings |
| **Clients** | 4,000+ |

## Complexity, not net worth, decides fit

Many tax firms qualify clients by net worth or income. We look at it differently. We look at how your entities are structured and how many planning opportunities that structure creates. A venture capitalist with 200 K-1s is usually a strong fit. An executive earning $1 million entirely in W-2 wages, with no other investments, usually is not, because there are few planning levers left to pull.

Our clients include founders and technology executives, fund managers and private investors, physicians and other professionals, real estate operators, owners of operating businesses, and families with their own family office. Together they span a wide range of wealth, and our top 15 families represent over $2 billion in net worth.

### Not every K-1 is equal

Although the number of K-1s you receive is sometimes a metric for complexity, what matters most is what is inside them. 20 K-1s all coming from single-property rentals may hold fewer planning opportunities than five from a fund-of-funds. Here is how our Tax Advisors think about the range.

| Complexity | Typical sources |
| --- | --- |
| Standard | Small operating businesses, single-property rental LLCs, basic trust K-1s |
| Moderate | Multi-property real estate, medical and professional groups, early-stage venture funds, self-storage and mobile home park funds, charitable remainder trusts |
| Complex | Publicly traded partnerships, oil and gas drilling funds, opportunity zone funds, commodity funds, institutional private equity and credit funds |
| Very complex | Fund-of-funds and feeder structures, foreign or Cayman entities, long-lived venture fund series |

If your K-1s sit mostly in the top row, a standard firm can usually handle them. If they reach the bottom three, or arrive with multiples across every row, that is the work we are built for.

## Who OLarry serves best

Any one of these can make OLarry a strong fit. None guarantees it, but these are the situations where our clients get the most from working with us:

- **Multiple entities.** Several [businesses](https://olarry.com/businesses_taxes), LLCs, S corporations, partnerships, or holding companies, each with its own return and its own decisions.
- **A high volume of [K-1s](https://olarry.com/k-1-investors)**, especially from private funds, publicly traded partnerships, or foreign structures.
- **[Real estate](https://olarry.com/real-estate-investors).** It is not required, but it often helps. A rental portfolio opens planning around depreciation, cost segregation, and [real estate professional status](https://www.irs.gov/publications/p925) that wage income does not.
- **A liquidity event behind you or ahead of you:** the sale of a business, a large realized gain, an [IPO](https://olarry.com/tech-founders-and-executives), or a fund exit.
- **[Trusts](https://olarry.com/trusts-and-estates) and planning for the next generation**, including gifting, family limited partnerships, and the trust returns that come with them.
- **A [fund or management company](https://olarry.com/gp-lp-fund-managers) of your own**, with carried interest, partners, and investors who need K-1s.
- **Filings in more than one state or country.** Also not required. For international holdings, we prepare the U.S. side.

In practice, our clients look like this. These profiles are illustrative, not specific clients:

- An investor with more than 100 K-1s and filing obligations in over a dozen states.
- A first-time general partner launching a venture fund, with a separate management company, a partner overseas, and outside investors.
- A physician who owns a practice, a holding company, and several rentals, and is logging hours toward real estate professional status.
- A technology executive whose RSU income looked like a W-2 problem until 50 K-1s, a foreign apartment, and a stake in a local business arrived.

### Why clients come to us

Most of our clients did not leave a bad CPA. They outgrew a model that was never built for their complexity or wealth goals. The moment usually looks like one of these:

- The partner they hired stopped calling, and the work moved to junior staff.
- They couldn't get hold of their CPA or team.
- A longtime CPA retired.
- They caught the errors themselves, such as a missing K-1 or a basis calculation that did not add up.
- A year-end invoice, or an estimated payment notice, arrived as a surprise.
- They asked for strategy and received a stack of forms.
- Their tax work was split across several providers who did not talk to each other.

## What your fee includes

Before you commit, a Tax Advisor reviews your returns, scopes the work, and quotes one flat, all-inclusive annual fee. The all-inclusive annual fee reflects your situation, so the work below is priced in at the start rather than billed later. No hourly rates and no surprise invoices at year-end.

| Area | What is covered |
| --- | --- |
| Tax strategy | Quarterly planning and check-ins, tax projections, year-end planning, and unlimited access to your Tax Advisor |
| Returns | Individual, partnership, S corporation, C corporation, trust ([Form 1041](https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-1041)), gift tax ([Form 709](https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-709)), estate tax (Form 706), and private foundation ([Form 990-PF](https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-990-pf)) returns, state returns (including nonresident and composite returns), and extensions |
| Payments and elections | Quarterly estimated payments and [pass-through entity tax (PTET) elections](https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/n-20-75.pdf) |
| Your investors | K-1s for the investors in your fund or company, and 1099 filing |
| Cross-border, U.S. side only | PFICs, [Form 5471](https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-5471), and foreign pensions on your U.S. return, plus your [FBAR](https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/report-of-foreign-bank-and-financial-accounts-fbar), which is filed separately with FinCEN |
| Prior years | Amended returns for one year or several, and catch-up and cleanup work if needed. |
| Credits and studies | R&D credit studies. Cost segregation studies come from a partner firm; we interpret the results and apply them to your return |
| Notices and audits | IRS and state notices, and audit defense on the returns we prepare |
| Your advisor team | Direct coordination with your wealth manager, estate attorney, assistant, or family office |
| Bookkeeping | Available as an add-on for clients who want it |

You work with one dedicated Tax Advisor, backed by specialists in areas like trusts and estates, real estate, funds, and international reporting. Year-round access is included, not required. Most clients meet with their Tax Advisor quarterly, some meet monthly or weekly when a transaction calls for it, and others check in only when something changes.

## Is OLarry a CPA firm?

No. OLarry is a tax advisory company, not a licensed public accounting firm. Our Tax Advisors include CPAs, enrolled agents, and tax attorneys, the three credentials the IRS allows to [represent you on any tax matter](https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/understanding-tax-return-preparer-credentials-and-qualifications), including audits, collections, and appeals. Your returns, planning, and IRS representation are handled by those credentialed professionals.

That model is increasingly common. Many of the largest U.S. accounting firms now deliver tax and advisory work through a company that is not a licensed CPA firm, while a separate licensed CPA firm handles audits. [Grant Thornton](https://www.grantthornton.com/insights/press-releases/2024/may/new-mountain-capital-and-grant-thornton-close-growth-investment) works this way, and about half of the 20 largest U.S. accounting firms have [taken private equity investment](https://www.cfobrew.com/stories/10-of-the-top-20-cpa-firms-are-backed-by-private-equity) under a similar structure. Most states require a licensed CPA firm to be majority-owned by CPAs, so an outside investor such as a private equity fund cannot own one. Instead, the investor buys into the tax and advisory company, which is not a CPA firm, and audits stay with a separate firm owned by CPAs.

## Who OLarry is not right for

Our model is built for complexity, and it does not serve everyone well. You will likely be better served elsewhere if:

- **Your income is mostly W-2 wages, with one other entity at most.** That holds even at a high salary, and even with a single rental property. There are too few moving parts for our team to add much value.
- **You need bookkeeping alone, or an outsourced CFO.** We offer bookkeeping alongside tax work for some clients, but not as a stand-alone service, and we do not provide CFO services.
- **You are shopping for an unrealistic aggressive tax shelter.** We implement sophisticated strategies, including complex ones, when your facts support them and the position is defensible. We do not start with a shelter and work backward to justify it.
- **You need investment management, financial planning, or legal drafting.** Our team includes CPAs, enrolled agents, and tax attorneys, but not licensed investment advisors, and we do not draft legal documents. We work alongside the people who do that work for you.

## What clients say

> **John B., Partner**

## Frequently asked questions

### Is OLarry legit?

Yes. OLarry is a U.S. tax advisory firm founded in 2022 by Eric Rachmel (Chief Executive Officer), Becky Hobbs (Chief Operating Officer), and Corey Heldreth (Chief Accounting Officer), and it serves 4,000+ clients across all 50 states. The team includes CPAs, enrolled agents, and tax attorneys, and our Tax Advisors average 10 to 20 years of high net worth tax experience from leading tax firms.

### Is OLarry a CPA firm?

No. OLarry is a tax advisory company, not a licensed public accounting firm. Your work is handled by CPAs, enrolled agents, and tax attorneys, the professionals with unlimited rights to represent you before the IRS. This model is common: many of the largest U.S. accounting firms now provide tax services through a company that is not a CPA firm, because most states require CPA firms to be majority-owned by CPAs.

### Is my information secure?

Your data and your tax team never leave U.S. soil, and you share documents through the secure OLarry App.

### How much does OLarry cost?

It depends on your complexity, not your net worth. After reviewing your returns, we quote one flat, all-inclusive annual fee that covers your returns, year-round planning, and advisory access. The fee does not change mid-year because you called more often.

### Is there a minimum net worth or income?

No. We decide fit by complexity: entities, K-1s, real estate, trusts, and multi-state or cross-border filings. A high income from W-2 wages alone is usually not a fit.

### Can I switch tax advisors in the middle of the year?

Yes. We onboard clients year-round, and your quote reflects where in the year you start. The one exception is a deadline that is days away on a complex return, and we will tell you if that applies.

### Will I lose what my current firm knows about me?

No. With your authorization, we collect your prior returns and records, and your Tax Advisor builds your file before your first planning session. Clients with a family office or in-house accountant often find the transition easier than they expected.

### Will I always work with the same person?

Yes. You have one dedicated Tax Advisor. Your file lives in our system, so a specialist on the team can step in when your advisor is away.

### Can I meet my Tax Advisor before I sign?

Yes. We will introduce you to the Tax Advisor who would lead your work before you commit.

### Do you work with my wealth manager and attorney?

Yes, and it is included in your fee. We coordinate directly with your wealth manager, estate attorney, assistant, or family office. We do not manage investments, so we have no reason to compete with them.

### Are your tax strategies aggressive?

Our strategies fit your facts and hold up to scrutiny. Some are sophisticated, but we do not recommend a position we would not defend, and audit defense is included on the returns we prepare.

### Do you handle international tax?

We handle the U.S. side. That includes PFIC reporting, Form 5471, and foreign pensions on your U.S. return, plus your FBAR, which is filed separately with FinCEN. Returns owed in another country are filed by an advisor there, and we coordinate with them.

## Find out where you stand

If your taxes involve several entities, a stack of K-1s, real estate, or trusts, and your current firm only hears from you in April, we should talk. A Tax Advisor will review your situation and tell you plainly whether OLarry is the right fit.
